heya!  Very Happy
this thread is about fallout 2, people say it's the best rpg ever and im sure it's at least on the top 5 on my list, it's pretty awesome.

the story:
ok, the world has been destroyed by a nuclear war, nearly everyone died but some people who survived inside "vaults", huge underground structures in wich people managed to survive to reconstruct and repopulate.

you're a tribal...not any tribal tho but a direct descendant of the vault dweller (the hero of the first game), your village is suffering and will die unless you find the G.E.C.K. (garden of eden creation kit), it contains a lot of stuff meant for rebuilding after the war and vaults usually had one.

it's not that simple though...

gameplay:
you can name your character whatever you want as long as it's not too long, the age can be between 16 and somewhere in the 30s, like 38 or something but it doesn't matter much.

you can choose your gender and then the thing becomes really fun
here's the SPECIAL stats system, there's 7 skills, each starts a 5 points, you're given some points to spend on upgrading them too, they go from 1 to 10.
1-poor...10-heroic
Strenght
Perception
Endurance
Charisma
Intelligence
Agility
Luck

see? it spells special if you read the first letters from up to down!!!
almost all stats modify your skills...

strenght is for:
starting hp, for every point on str you get + 1 starting hp
carry capacity, it increase the amount of stuff you can carry
melee damage, the amount of damage you do in close combat
etc.
perception:
your accuracy with ranged weapons
your ability to spot stuff
how far you appear from enemies in random encounters
etc.
endurance:
your starting hp, 2 hp for every point spent here
the amount of time you stay down after getting knocked
your resistances
the amount of hp you gain when you level up
etc.
charisma:
your dialogue options
the amount of people you can have at your disposal (1 per every 2 charisma)
etc.
intelligence:
dialogue options
the amount of skill points you get when leveling up
if you have  <4 intelligence then you are stupid, bassically you can barely speak with people and therefore can't get or do many quests, plus you get few skill points per lvl.
etc.
agility:
over all other things, it increases the amount of action points you have, more action points = you can do more stuff epr turn.
etc.
luck:
among other things it increases your critical chance, wich is very important.


skills:
small guns-your accuracy and ability with small weapons like pistols, shotguns, rifles, smgs, etc.

big guns-your ability in the use of big weapons like flamethrowers, miniguns, rocket launchers and the like.

energy weapons-handling of plasma, pulse and energy weapons.

unarmed-your prowess in hand to hand combat, this can also include knucles, powerfists and the like.

melee weapons-your ability to fight with knives, blades, spears, hammers and similar weapons.

throwing-your ability to throw objects like grenades, rocks and stuff.



barter-your ability to trade goods and get better prices.

speech-how well you can convince others that you're right.

outdoorsman-how good you are at avoiding unwanted encounters

gambling-your chances of winning in a casino game



sneak-your ability to hide and not be detected

steal-your ability to steal stuff

lockpick-how well you can unlock doors and containers

science-mostly helps you to hack computers

repair-your knowledge of fixing stuff

first aid-your knowledge of healing minor wounds

doctor-healing bigger wounds and crippled limbs

traps-explosive handling and trap dismantling

you may tag 3 skills, tagged skills are like the things you're specially good at, they receive a starter bonus and are increased by 2% per skill point expenditure instead of the normal 1 point.

im back! here are the traits, they are special things you can choose for your character, they have good things and bad things.

small frame-you get more agility but carry 50 lbs less of stuff

finesse-you do less damage but have a higher chance of doing a critical hit

fast shot-it takes 1 action point less to fire guns, but you can't make targeted hits

gifted-all your stats are boosted by 1 but your skills and the number of skill points you get per lvl are reduced.

skilled-you get extra skill points per lvl but you get a perk once each 4 lvls instead of every 3

bloody mess-everyone dies the most violent death they have when you kill them, it's pretty useless as you can see those deaths normally, and it even feels like a reward that way.

jinxed-everyone is more prone to a critical failure...even you and your party.

fast metabolism-you heal faster but are less resistant to poison and radiation

bruiser-you gain +2 str but loose 2 action points

one hander-+20% chance to hit with one handed weapons, -40% chance to hit with 2 handed weapons (wich are the strongest)

kamikaze-you usually attack before other people but it is harder to dodge attacks

heavy handed- +4 melee damage but critical hits do -40% damage

good natured-your barter, speech, first aid and doctor skills receive a bonus but there's a penalty for all combat skills.

chem reliant-you become addicted more easily but recover faster

chem resistant-you have lower chances of becoming addicted but you recover more slowly

sex appeal- members of your same gender dislike you more but people of the opposite gender like you more

you get to choose up to 2 traits, they're optional tho.

the perks, perks are special abilities you get to choose every 3 (4 with the skilled trait) levels, there's too many to list here but some include:

being able to see your enemy hp and what weapon he is using (plus the amount of ammo he has left)

gaining bonuses to your skills, say +20% barter and the like

increasing damage

improving a stat by 1 permanently

making basically all of your attacks critical hits

more action points

etc.
unlike traits, perks do not have negative consequences

the group...now i will list all npcs who may join you...

SULIK
main uses-close combat fighting and using burst weapons

sulik is a tribal whose sister was captured by slavers, he got drunk in klamath and went breaking stuff, he has to pay 350$ for damages, he will join you if you pay the damages or rescue smiley the trapper

NOTE:he will become hostile if you cause trouble in klamath

he should be the first npc you get, he starts off with a sledgehammer wich is not that good so give him a knife or smg or something.

the stuff i give him-a super sledge hammer to bash people around and a h&k weapon with burst mode and plently of power

VIC
main uses-repair stuff, shooting people

vic is a trader from vault city, he was captured by metzger the slaver and needs to fix a radio for him, you can help him repair the radio and pay metzger for his release, or kill metzger and set him free, in either case he will join you

he is very skilled at repairing stuff and can use rifles.

the stuff i give him-sniper rifle and gauss rifle.

CASSIDY
main uses-he's a good shot and has some of the coolest taunts

he lives in vault city and works as a bartender, he HATES that place tho, he only lives there because of the good medical care and will happily join you if you talk to him about it.

NOTE:using drugs on cassidy will give him a heart attack and he will die

i give him a pancor jackhammer or gauss rifle

MARCUS
main use-destroying your enemies

he is the sheriff of broken hills and will join you once you finish some of his quests, he is a super mutant so he cannot wear armor, he is pretty strong though, he starts with a minigun  Shocked

NOTE:he attacks if you cause trouble in broken hills

replace his minigun with a vindicator minigun or gatling laser if you dare but he just loves to burst the enemy when there's one of your guys (or you) in front of him, so you sometimes take heavy damage and die, a way to avoid this is giving him a turbo plasma rifle.

MYRON
main use-science, making drugs

he is the guy who made jet, the most addictive drug ever, he is pretty weak but very funny.
you find him at the stables of the mordino crime family.

there's not much point to travelling with him as his main use is making drugs, hearing his level up comments is priceless though

MIRIA/DAVIN
main uses-none
regardless of your gender you can sleep with either miria or davin in modoc, in wich case grisham, their father, organises a shotgun wedding for you and you become husband and wife/wife and wife/wife and husband or husband and husband.

DON'T GET THEM! they are bad at everything, don't level up and you can't just drop them out of the group by normal means!
you have to kill them or make father tully in new reno divorce you.

DOGMEAT
main uses-melee fighting
dogmeat is the dog from fallout 1!!!
he is about everyone's favorite dog, he has lots of action points and does quite some damage but he can only fight unarmed (of course! he has no arms!  Laughing ...bad pun) and cannot wear armor or carry stuff.

you get him in the cafe of broken dreams special encounter, you can have him join simply by removing any armor you're wearing.
NOTE: if you attack dogmeat a guy called mel (gibson) will appear and attack you

K-9
you fix him and make him join you in the enclave, he is largely uninteresting

ROBODOG
about the same as K-9 but even weaker i think

GORIS
goris is a deathclaw, a huge, powerful monster, he cannot wear armor nor use any weapon but his claw, but he has high melee damage and critical chance, he is hooded most of the time and takes off his hood to fight.

THE PARIAH DOG
you find this dog in a random encounter, he is surrounded by mutilated bodies, there is a chance every 10 seconds that he might want to follow you and become a party member, try to escape before that happens!!!
if he joins you your luck is lowered to 1 and you get jinxed.

the only way to get him out of your party is to kill him, but he has 750 hp so it may be a bit complicated.
i've heard that extracting his brain at the sierra army depot doesn't kill him, you have to extract the brain twice to kill him, netting 2 human brains  Shocked and lowering your karma by 200.

THE ROBOT
you get him on the sierra army depot, theres's 4 brains you can give him.
abnormal brain = useless
chimpanzee brain = useless but can be told to stay
human brain = a bit better but still pretty bad
cibernetic brain = the best brain

he can use rifles but you probably got enough snipers already.

LENNY
he can heal people...and not much else.

ARROYO:
ok this is your village, this is where you start, the village needs the G.E.C.K.to survive, you have to look for it, if you take too long doing that the village is destroyed (even if you DO find it it's destroyed anyway so why should i care?)

hmmm lemme see, you can rescue nagor's dog, clean hakunin's garden from the evil plants...you must got through the temple of trials at the beginning of the game...

you also can get a sharpened spear and also can get some melee weapons and unarmed training from some of the people in the town, get hakunin to make healing powder for you and the elder can give you some cash and tell you what to do and where to go.

g2g for now i'll post the others later, much later.

klamath-
klamath is a small town with 2 bars and a lot of trappers (people who hunt geckos), there's some stuff to do here.

you can guard torr's brahmin and stuff.
you can buy and sell stuff in the bars.
a guy in the golden gecko bar can train you.
you can recruit sulik, your first party member.
there's some quests.
you can kill the rat god.

remember to ransack vic's old house here to find a pipe rifle and some other stuff, take the broken radio too.

this place is quite wrecked, like half of the population is addicted to jet (a drug), important places include 2 shops, 1 casino, 1 bar, a slaver's guild and 1 "restaurant".

you can gamble in becky's casino if you want to, the shops sell a good variety of firearms and there's some armors to be bought but i doubt you can afford it.

ok, back on the den, there's some quests including a gang war, you can join the slavers if you want but i would not recommend it, if you wanna try you can save and join them tho, being a slaver means some people wont talk to you and you will have a huge tatoo on your head.

there's interesting weapons (at this level) to be bought in the shops, if you can pay for them...wich you probably can't.

the kids outside the casino and some of the shops will pickpocket you for a random item in your inventory sometimes when you go near them, this can be pretty annoying but luckily you can steal your stuff back without anyone attacking you, after some minutes the kid will walk over to their nearest shop and exchange whatever he got from you for candy or something, if you let that happen you'll have to buy back your item if you want it back.

the city is populated mostly by addicts, wich you can kill without anyone caring but don't make a habit of it or you'll make the place look worse, take away some of the fun, etc.

you also find vic here, you'll have to free him from the slavers to get him though, you can pay them or kill them...whatever.

modoc-
modoc is a farming community with some problems.

the major quest line in here is to make peace with the slags at the ghost farm...or kill them.

apart from that there's some other quests, you can eat some weird stuff at rose's bed & breakfast and you can "do" miria or davin (your gender doesn't matter  Shocked ) and then be caught by their dad, grisham, and be forced to a shotgun wedding. i would save before that as they are like...the worst party members.

it's kinda fun to release the "chicken" in the building to the north in the bed & breakfast map, save before tho, as everyone will die.

jo is the mayor (apparently) and has a stupid general store that sells pretty pointless stuff.

g2g, it's late and my hand hurts.
